Owner Salon Stella
Stella Salon was established in 2005. “My partner Carrie and I were looking for a logo for our new salon. We knew we wanted a star to be part of it. When we saw a Stella Moped ride by we were taken with the style and fun it represented. Thus, Salon Stella was born.”
Carrie left for Hawaii and Jamie remains the sole proprietor. She runs Salon Stella as a family-style facility where they specialize in hair cutting, styling and coloring for men and women. DevaCurl and Davines are their proudly featured hair care products.
Jamie is a local girl, born and raised in Minneapolis. She loves the city, is married and the mother of three.
Salon Stella has been consistently voted “Best Haircut” in Minneapolis/St. Paul’s City Pages newspaper since 2005. Jamie is very pleased that she has been able to create such a friendly, creative, family atmosphere in her salon and her stylists all share her sentiment, as do her clientele.
“A customer once brought in a picture of her dog for me to match hair color to,” she laughed. “And then there’s the fun challenge of matching haircuts and coloring with the Anime illustrations a few have brought in.”
Nikol started at Salon Stella in 2008. Her specialty is event styles and makeup, but she loves the variety that comes in daily.
After graduating from Aveda in 2001, she salon hopped for a few years before beginning work as an apprentice in a large salon. Over the years Nikol has done a fair amount of work on photo shoots, events, and weddings.
She enjoys working at Salon Stella because she finds her coworkers and clients to be interesting and authentic. “They are a fascinating blend who come from all over the state.” She’s also done hair and makeup for a model from America’s Next Top Model.
Nikol’s hair tip is one she learned from a client. “Put a few drops of rosemary oil on your scalp to promote hair growth. It also helps clear your mind and energize.”
Laura has worked at Salon Stella since 2012. She loves the relaxed atmosphere and inspiring support by the other stylists here.
Laura has had three years training, mainly with the Deva methods, and is a great fan of their line of products. She had the opportunity to take Deva’s 3 day advanced course in New York City in 2012, which gave her a greater understanding of all kinds of textures. Although her focus has been mainly toward working with curly hair, she welcomes all hair types to her chair.
“There are no rights or wrongs when it comes to your hair and I like to help my clients figure out what works best for their hair type and lifestyle.”
Moe has worked at Salon Stella since 2007. “Salon Stella is my favorite place I have ever worked. Jamie has created a salon environment that is laid back yet professional. It’s like getting your hair done at your best friend’s house. When our clients enter the salon they are treated like family and friends, because they are.”
Moe went back to school for cosmology at 27 after owning and operating a vintage clothing store. She started her career at Salon Montage in Edina where she apprenticed for 6 months, then worked as a stylist there for 1-1/2 years. She knew she wanted to rent a space and chose Salon Stella because she found it unique in the way it thrives on the encouraging team environment and how the stylists will praise each other and share tips and advice. “We share clients and encourage them to try everyone.”
Moe likes cutting, coloring and styling. She’ll listen to what the client wants and then finds a style or color that will work for their hair color and texture. In the end, she wants every client to leave feeling happy and good about how they look and feel.
Her tip is to find a style that works for your lifestyle and hair. “Stop trying to fight your hair. Start working with it. Hair is never perfect let it fall into place and you will love it.”
Meg started working at Salon Stella in October 2014. She loves the people she works with and finds her clients to be amazing.
Meg graduated from Aveda in 2007 and has worked in a few salons in the Twin Cities since then. She has explored a few avenues of the industry, including extensions and wigs, while still working behind the chair. She continues to take classes on cut and color techniques.
“I really like so many aspects of doing hair. My favorite is probably color, but I love taking people through the process beginning to end, color and cut. I also love helping people to look and feel their best.”
